Come Meet The Opposite Committee

I started working on demos for this almost contemporaneously with Who Needs Friends. I got real into Jim O Rourke as well as Philip Glass and the concept of “phasing”. At the time I really wanted to learn more about time signatures and make something with a real varied palette. I was also extremely extremely depressed and overwhelmed with anxiety. This was an important anchor for me to keep going.

Many MANY kind words could be said for Matt and Rachel for dealing with me during this period. Matt really put a ton of work into very complicated rhythmic parts for this and then took those ideas forward into Flesh in a way that felt massively affirming. I really struggled with articulating my thoughts clearly and everyone was very very kind in helping me get through that.

Years on, I think it’s a very good album! It can be hard sometimes to have a single-minded locked-in vision for something. To strive towards that with everything you have, and then still come up short of where you wanted to be. But hey! Even if you don’t quite summit your everest, you still got pretty high up there, and you can always try again!
