Living Room Sign

In case you forget where you are in the house of course.

Graphic design is my passion.

No but really, in high school I was in a vocational design program (which ended up being one of the most important educational experiences of my life), and we did a fair bit of type design.

I always really wanted to try signpainting, but only got around to buying the nice lettering paint last year (it’s relevant because it tends to flow easier than most paints while still maintaining a “richness of color”, I don’t know a ton about paint qualities, but I do intend on chasing that down over the next few years).

This was a pretty classic single stroke gothic with three levels of dimension. I just thought it’d be funny to label our living room.

  • The blue board with the lettering laid out in pencil, each letter drawn as a dimensional block
  • The letter faces filled in red, spelling LIVING ROOM across the board
  • Yellow going on over the red, left to right, the later letters still plain
  • The finished lettering, navy shadows giving each letter its depth
