Extended Sonnet
I could probably count the ways I love you.
Your half smile while waking.
tongue stuck out while you weave
that tangled yarn pulled out and through.
When you pull wool blankets up to your nose
Your pride over perfectly crisp green beans
How, repeatedly, you wear the same clothes
Because you love your new sweater, and how it looks with those jeans
How, in moments of relative isolation,
You turn to me and speak what I’m thinking
like reading billboards aloud when we drive
crossing highways, with no location in mind
I could continue on like this:
But I don’t want to give the impression that my love is quantifiable:
A database of attributes to market.
newspaper inserts that boast great deals on empathy,
Standard reports on how you fold socks.
Instead, appreciation springs up from the shared firmament
The space between numbers being eternal:
Whole new types of care,
Are born from chasing down infinity.
